* Sport * Tennis Novak Djokovic beats rain and Mikhail Youzhny to win Dubai Open

Neither a racket-bending tantrum or a day's rain break could prevent the world No2, Novak Djokovic, from retaining the Dubai Open title today. Djokovic beat Russia's Mikhail Youzhny 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

A rainstorm had stopped play on Saturday with Djokovic a set and a break up. He started Sunday strongly, going three games ahead, before Youzhny – the runner-up in 2007 – levelled at 3-3. Neither player could then take charge, and they exchanged further breaks. Djokovic destroyed his racket after he double-faulted to put his opponent 5-4 up.

Djokovic surged to a 3-0 lead in the deciding set and although Youzhny broke to level at 3-3, this time the second seed responded. The Russian made an error to allow Djokovic to serve out the match and drop to his knees in triumph.

In Kuala Lumpur, Alisa Kleybanova beat the top seed, Elena Dementieva, 6-3 6-2 in a rain-disrupted all-Russian final of the Malaysian Open. The 20-year-old world No29, playing her first tour final, served powerfully.
