Basketball Shot in Compton

Three members of a family playing basketball in Compton were shot by a 15- or 16-year-old gang member today, authorities said.

Authorities say they are searching for a teenager suspected of shooting three members of a family in Compton-- including a 10-year-old girl.

According to Lt. Henry Saucedo of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the girl was in stable condition early Wednesday. A 17-year-old boy and 45-year-old man wounded in the shooting also were in stable condition after surgery.

Saucedo says the three were playing basketball when they were shot at about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Saucedo says that authorities believe the shooter and one of the victims are gang members.

Authorities have not released the suspect's age or identity, or the victims' names.
