Fans prepared to forgive Tiger Woods

A poll conducted by ABC News/ESPN from Feb. 25-28 reveals that 54 percent of the participants thought that Woods was genuine in apologizing for his goof-ups. 22 percent of the people refused to believe the dishonored golfer, when he took the bold step of owning up about his many extra-marital affairs.

24 percent of the 1,000 people cited in the poll said they did not have any opinion on the matter.

Tiger Woods’ fall
Tiger Woods’ once-enviable life has become tough for the golfer ever since that Thanksgiving night, which saw a huge argument with his wife, a car crash, and the subsequent exposure of his many extra-marital affairs.

After months of taking on all types of accusations, and hiding from the media, Tiger Woods took the blame before friends and family on national television on Feb. 19. Post that admission, only 39 percent of people seem to have a favorable impression of Woods; his popularity took a huge plunge.

The golfer lost out on his game, his family and several big endorsements. Companies like Gatorade and Gillette dropped Tiger Woods from the endorsements and 31 percent of those polled reportedly think the companies are right in doing so.

Supporting Woods
However, a considerable 54 percent people were of the opinion that Woods should carry on endorsing those brands.

According to ABCNews, Woods should find some relief as many as 55 percent of the Americans are ready to forgive him.

However, there are a lot of people who feel that Woods’ wife Elin Nordegren was wronged and she should not excuse his prolific philandering yet. Only 29 percent of the people said Elin should forgive her disloyal husband.

21 percent said Elin should not let off the golfer with all his horrible mistakes while the rest think it is just none of their business.

Tiger back at practice?
Meanwhile, there is a strong buzz about Tiger Woods returning to his home in Florida after a week of family counseling in Arizona.

The Associated Press is reporting that Woods moved back to his home near Orlando on Saturday. He is trying to retrieve his life, getting back to his fitness routine and even taking up golf practice.

Many are guessing that Woods could be preparing for The Masters, which starts Apr. 8. However, he may also be back on the circuit at the Tavistock Cup on Mar. 22-23 at Isleworth, his home course in Florida.

The golf-pro has not hinted at his return date, after his Feb. 19 TV appearance, when he said that he does plan to return to the greens. “I do plan to return to golf one day. ... I just don’t know when that day will be,” Woods had said. “I don’t rule out that it will be this year.”

Though his popularity has taken a beating, Woods is missed on the green fields. "Tiger is the best and I want him back, but the Masters will always be the Masters, with or without Tiger," said defending champion Angel Cabrera. "When he does come back, I hope it's in the Masters and he comes back in great form."
