Medical Marijuana Advocates and a Californian Lawsuit

Medical Marijuana Advocates and a Californian Lawsuit. The medical use of cannabis has been controversial over the last several years. There are many advocates of pot smoking as a means to alternative medicine. In certain states such as California, ill individuals are allotted a small amount of marijuana to take for their various ailments, and allotments are only given with a doctor’s prescription.

The city of Los Angeles recently passed an ordinance that medical marijuana advocates believe violates state law. The city ordinance isn’t in effect yet because they have not set registration fees for dispensaries. Americans for Safe Access in conjunction with the Venice Beach Health Care Center, and Pure Life Alternative Wellness Center claim that the new laws would cause even the law-abiding dispensaries to go out of business.

The ordinance would give dispensaries only 7 days to relocate 1,000 feet from schools, parks, and places of worship – but won’t give owners a map of areas where they cannot operate. It is not difficult to see just how much trouble this could cause even an honest dispensary. Relocating any business is not an easy task.

The Californian lawsuit isn’t the only issue facing marijuana. Recently a study performed on young adults showcased that marijuana use could be linked to psychosis. On the other hand, the study also showed that those with mental disorders were already more likely to smoke pot to begin with. More details on the marijuana study can be found here.
